Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has given his approval for star player Antoine Griezmann to leave the club this summer.

Diego Simeone spoke to reporters about the French World Cup winner during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the league game this weekend.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will play his last game for the Rojiblancos when they take on Levante on Saturday.

Diego Simeone was optimistic for the future without the aforementioned Griezmann whom he thanked for five fantastic years in Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann signed for Atletico Madrid from fellow Spanish top flight side Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014 and he has been a wonderful servant for the capital club since his transfer.

He was part of the Atletico Madrid squad that reached the 2016 Champions League final before they were beaten on penalties by city rivals Real Madrid after both teams had played 1-1 at the end of regulation time and extra time.

Antoine Griezmann scored two goals in the final against French giants Marseille to hand his team the Europa League title last season.

It was his first major title with Atletico Madrid.

He was previously linked with Premier League giants Manchester United and Spanish champions Barcelona last summer but he decided to stay for this season.

The player is now expected to sign for Barcelona who is ready to activate the £108m release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
