Ajax director Edwin Van Der Sar has revealed that highly rated Matthijs De Ligt will either move to Spain or England when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Van Der Sar made this revelation about the in-demand De Ligt during an interview with Sky Sports Italia.
Matthijs De Ligt is one of the most sought-after young prospects on the European football stage and he has been linked with several clubs in both Spain and England.
He has been touted as a possible addition to the squads at major European clubs like Spanish champions Barcelona, Liverpool as well as the Manchester duo of Manchester United and Manchester City.
De Ligt is the youngest captain in the history of Ajax Amsterdam having been handed the armband at the age of 18 last year.
The 19-year-old has been at the heart of the remarkable season from Ajax Amsterdam who have knocked out big clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus from the Champions League this term.
De Ligt and Ajax won’t be in the Champions League final after a last gasp strike from Tottenham Hotspur forward Lucas Moura condemned Ajax to a 3-2 defeat at home in their semifinal second leg meeting.
Spurs will face Liverpool in the final after going through on the away goals rule.
They (Ajax) lost the first leg 1-0 at home and also took a 2-0 lead at halftime before Lucas Moura scored a second half hattrick to send his team to the final.
