Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin will leave the club at the end of this season upon the expiration of his current contract with the Spanish La Liga outfit.
His imminent exit was confirmed by the Spaniards earlier on Tuesday.
Uruguayan national team skipper Diego Godin has been at Atletico Madrid since joining the club from fellow Spanish La Liga side Villarreal in 2010.
The Atletico Madrid captain has scored 17 goals in 271 appearances for the club in the league since his move from the Yellow Submarines.
Diego Godin has been strongly linked with Italian giants Inter Milan.
The 33-year-old came close to joining Premier League giants Manchester United at the start of last season but the defender was reluctant to sign for the Red Devils despite the fact that the club was willing to pay his then release clause at Atletico Madrid.
Godin was also linked with Manchester United last summer but the Red Devils were unable to sign any centre back.
Without a quality centre back like Diego Godin, Manchester United have struggled a great deal this season.
The Red Devils have conceded a whopping 52 goals in just 37 Premier League games this term and that has ultimately led them to the Europa League rather than the Champions League.
