Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao have joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Juan Manuel Mata according to widespread reports coming out of the British media.
Juan Manuel Mata has few months left on his current deal at Manchester United meaning that he will become a free agent this summer.
The Spaniard has been offered a one-year deal extension by the Manchester United hierarchy with the option of another year but the player is said to be exploring the possibility of a move away from the club.
Mata became a Manchester United player in January 2014 after joining from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Red Devils were said to have paid around £37.1m for his transfer.
He has been attracting the interest of several clubs who are keen to sign a quality player like Mata on a free transfer.
According to the publication from the Daily Mirror, Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao are one of the clubs interested in a move for him.
Former club Valencia are also in the running to sign him this summer.
Mata was at Valencia before he moved to the Premier League to join Chelsea.
Other interested clubs include North London giants Arsenal, Spanish champions Barcelona and Italian champions Juventus.
