Pepe has scored 20 goals and also provided 11 assists in 34 league games for Lille this season and his goal contributions have propelled to second spot on the league table.

Lille will play in next season’s Champions League as a result.

Nicolas Pepe has been linked with several European clubs including Arsenal ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

He’s bidding to become the first African to win the award since Michael Essien in 2005.

Another Arsenal target Ismaila Sarr made the list of nominees for the Young Player of the Year Award alongside Jonathan Ikone of Lille, Houssem Aouar of Lyon and Boubacar Kamara of Marseille.

Senegalese international Sarr is bidding to become only the second African to win the award after Younes Belhanda of Morocco in 2012.

Belhanda was with Montpelier when he won that award.

Sarr has scored 10 goals and also provided eight assists for Rennes in all competitions this season.

He played a big part in the recent French Cup triumph over favourites Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

It was the first French Cup triumph for Rennes in 48 years (since 1971).
