Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has confirmed that the collision with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was an accident.
England international Smalling left Messi with a bloodied face and nose during the Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash between Manchester United and Spanish champions Barcelona at Old Trafford earlier in the week.
Chris Smalling spoke to the BBC Sport about the incident as he said that it was an accident before adding that Lionel Messi also knows that the collision was unintentional.
Lionel Messi had a hand in the only goal of the game which was scored before the collision between him and Smalling but the Argentine football icon struggled to recover from the situation for the rest of the game.
