Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed the reason behind the loss suffered by the Red Devils to Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona in the Champions League.

The Premier League giants were beaten 1-0 at home in the first leg of their Champions League last eight tie with Barcelona to leave them with a lot to do to secure a semifinal berth.

On the game, Belgian national team record goalscorer Lukaku told French news outlet RMC Sport that lack of confidence was the reason behind the slim defeat to the Spaniards.

Lukaku further said that the Manchester United players will need more heart in the second leg at the Nou Camp next week if they want to get the result needed to progress into the semifinals of the competition.

Barcelona started the first leg with more purpose than what was obtainable with Manchester United and they were rewarded for their fast start when Red Devils defender Luke Shaw put through his own net off a Luis Suarez header.

The Spanish champions were able to keep the Romelu Lukaku-led Manchester United attack at bay for the rest of the game.

Manchester United still have a good chance to qualify for the last four due to their very good away record in this year’s Champions League.

They have won three of their four away games this season including trips to Juventus and PSG.
