Newly appointed Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received high praise from one of his former teammates as he prepares to face Spanish champions Barcelona in the Champions League.

Manchester United host Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie at Old Trafford on Wednesday night before the second leg at the Nou Camp next week Tuesday.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is expected to play a big part for the Catalan giants against former club Manchester United where he was a former teammate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Ahead of the first leg, Pique told reporters about Solskjaer as he praised the Norwegian tactician as a great teammate during his time in Manchester.

Gerard Pique was at Manchester United for four years having joined the club in 2004 from the famed La Masia Academy.

The 32-year-old initially joined the Manchester United youth team in 2004 before playing for the first team.

Pique left the Red Devils in 2008 to move back to Barcelona where he has attained legendary status.

The retired Spanish international has won three Champions League titles at Barcelona as well as seven league titles.

Pique was a key part of the Barcelona squad that won the Champions League in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
