The Blues have been impressive of late but a dismal result against Everton has declined their effort in recent weeks. Though they lost 2-0 at Goodison Park it was (arguably) not the best outcome or the true reflection of the game for them. Chelsea dominated the match, had more shots on goal but it proved not to be their day and it was Everton’s night to remember.
This leaves Chelsea with three points off the top four (4) as the battle for Champions League place for next term continues.
With the situation and the need for the Blues to get sparkling again, we take a look at three players that must stand up and be counted for Maurizio Sarri’s side in the exception of Star duo Eden Hazard and William as the case may be.
Callum Hudson-Odoi (Attack)
The talented teenager (19 years of age) is proven to be an asset to the club as he will put in a superb shift for the Chelsea side.
He was a player that was not expected to have risen to this level by now but he’s proving many wrong as the press and media are beginning to talk about him. He scored against Dynamo Kiev and also have an
assist in the game.
If Chelsea is to do the needful to upstage rivals Arsenal and Manchester United, then Odoi must be called up (even from the start) as he was a threat to the Everton side when he came on from the bench
at the weekend.
Ross Barkley (Midfield)
The English talent received a round of applause as he left the pitch in the Everton defeat to (2-0) Chelsea. This was due to the player’s benevolence on the attacking side of the pitch during his stay at Everton.
Barkley’s quality is an advantage to the Blues as the player is sensational when in (full) match fitness. Antonio Conte and Chelsea signed the player from Everton even when he was undergoing a long injury lay-off.
This is a sign of his potential and how much he’s valued by the previous technical crew (manager) as he scored a couple of goals to aid Chelsea this season especially in the 0-4 defeat of Burnley earlier in the campaign at the Turf Moor.
David Luiz (Defense)
The Brazilian must improve very much defensively if the Blues are to meander their way into the top 4.
There is no doubt about the player’s quality as we have seen over the years; both at PSG and in Brazil’s National team.
However, the player needs a high level of focus and concentration at the back as this has been his major weakness.
Sarri blasts Giroud, critics over playing time
Manager Maurizio Sarri has replied France international striker Olivier Giroud for claims that he has not got enough playing time this season.
Olivier Giroud has been linked away from the West London outfit and the major complaint has been his lack of playing time as he insists that he is in his peak and has got the only opportunity to play regularly before age begins to tell on him.
However, Maurizio Sarri has refuted all claims, insisting that he has handed enough playing time to the former Arsenal striker. He explained that Olivier Giroud has played 39 games so far this season across all competitions, which to him is enough for a player who has not been delivering goals.
Most of the opportunities for a starting role given to the World Cup winner has come from Cup competitions and that has been his major concern as he seeks to play often in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, the Italian boss stated that the striker has been very useful to his team and will only hope to have him around in the coming season, having claimed that an agreement has been reached with the club to have him remain ahead of coming season.
Why Maurizio Sarri will not press for Europa League win, fans won’t like this
There is no doubt that West London outfit Chelsea fans will grow more furious with manager Maurizio Sarri especially after suggesting that he does not have to win the Europa League before securing qualification to the Champions League next season.
According to the Italian manager, a top-four finish can help solve the problem as well as meet the target, not minding if he goes through the season without a trophy.
The mandate given to Maurizio Sarri when he took the job after coming from Italian Serie A outfit Napoli was to return the club to the Champions League next season and that has been a very difficult task for him to carry out owing to the inconsistent performance of his team so far this season.
There are therefore suggestions that the target can be met by the former Napoli boss if he ends up winning the Europa League this season as they are currently in the semi-final but he seems to have his attention more on finishing in the top-four.
Maurizio Sarri’s team have been handed a big advantage after Tottenham, Man United and Arsenal all lost their weekend games. They will be hoping to make good use of it by winning all of their games left this season.
Why Chelsea can still finish top-four
There are suggestions that the West London outfit Chelsea can still finish in the top four of the English Premier League as they play their fixtures against Burnley later on Monday.
The Blues team are currently in the fifth position in the league table but they have a major advantage as Tottenham, Man United and Arsenal all lost their weekend games respectively.
At the moment, the Blues team have played 34 games and already have 66 points, same with fourth-placed Arsenal with a point below Tottenham who have also played 34 games both.
However, should the West London outfit win their 35th game against Burnley later on Monday, they will take two steps forward to land in the third position in the Premier League table ahead of Tottenham and Arsenal.
It is claimed that the Blues team could just continue from there to avoid any defeat again in the league and that could mean playing in the Champions League next season as all hope is not lost.
The manager Maurizio Sarri team is however not favourites to finish in the top four but the situation changed as soon as Tottenham, Arsenal and Man United all lost at the weekend.
However, a top-four finish could help Maurizio Sarri keep his job.
Todd Kane waiting on Chelsea for transfer window
West London outfit Chelsea have got Todd Kane on loan with Hull City but the player remains stranded as he cannot make a decision over his future without an agreement from his parent club.
The right-back has spent the season with Hull City and the loan deal is set to come to an end but no words yet from the West London outfit with the season already rounding up.
Todd Kane expects to have words with the Blues to determine his future as his contract is set to expire in a couple of months which has not been made.
However, it is unclear if manager Jurgen Maurizio Sarri will be ready to have Todd Kane ahead of the coming season, not minding if the transfer ban on the team is lifted or not.
It has been reported that Todd Kane’s agent is set to hold talks with the club because of the need to have the player progress with first team football which he is yet to see in the English topflight.
Meanwhile, the Blues team have been handed transfer ban which would take them out of the coming two transfer window and that will play a major role in determining the future of their loan players, especially those that have impressed.
Chelsea reject bid for star defender
West London outfit Chelsea are reported to have rejected a bid from Brighton & Hove Albion to secure the signature of youngster Reece James ahead of the coming summer window.
Reece James has been on the radar of the EPL side but it is claimed that the Blues team are not ready to part ways with the young lads they have viewed him as a major part of the club’s future.
At 19, Reece James is yet to see a first team football in Chelsea before he was sent on loan but there are suggestions he would return soon with manager Maurizio Sarri looking to work with younger players after Callum Hudson-Odoi was forced on him.
It is claimed that the EPL team have already made an attempt with a £10 million to lure the West London outfit but that has not worked with the Blues team keen on keeping the star player.
Reece James only signed a four-year contract with the Blues team and there is no doubt that they will want him to see out his contract and graduate to playing in the Premier League with a first-team football.
Meanwhile, the Blues team will only hope that Reece James is encouraged by the wish of the team to keep him for the long term.
Tammy Abraham returning to Stamford Bridge?
West London outfit Chelsea have got a lot of issues regarding the coming summer transfer window as they will not be allowed to sign a new player owing to the transfer ban on them by the world football governing body for disobeying transfer laws.
More so, they have got some players who are keen on leaving the club and there might be no opportunity to have them replaced while those currently on loan are not looking forward to returning back.
Tammy Abraham is one player the West London outfit have been asked to pay much attention to because of his fine form with Aston Villa so far this season as he has already landed 25 goals, the first to achieve that for the club in four decades.
West London outfit have been urged to have some of their players return to the Stamford Bridge, knowing that they will not be participating in the coming summer transfer window and if they do, they might not be able to compete in the coming season.
One major issue for the Blues team this season is their lack of cutting edge and Tammy Abraham has been able to give the hint that he will be able to meet with the club’s demand for a prolific goal scorer but it is unclear if manager Maurizio Sarri will seek to have him return.
Chelsea finally make up their mind on Hazard replacement?
There are suggestions that the West London outfit Chelsea have finally made up their mind on a replacement for Belgium international Eden Hazard who is keen to leave the club as soon as the season ends.
Eden Hazard has been linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge after failing to agree on a new deal with the club and he is rumoured to be heading to the Spanish La Liga outfit Real Madrid ahead of the coming season.
This makes the Blues team seek for a replacement and they have been linked with a move for La Liga outfit Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho as the hope to have him return to the English Premier League.
Philippe Coutinho was formerly in the English Premier League with Merseyside outfit Liverpool before forcing a move away from the club.
Life seems not to go in the direction he thought as he is not favoured in the team as a first team player which is the reason why he seeks to leave the club for another experience.
Should the West London outfit happen to win the appeal for their transfer ban, they will be willing to land the star player in the coming summer transfer window.
Why Eden Hazard is the best EPL player
The latest statistic has shown that Belgium international and Chelsea star Eden Hazard is the best player in the English Premier League as far as the season is concerned.
The star player has been in great form and he has been the solution to the lack of cutting edge in the Chelsea attack as he has provided most of the goals while he has been able to lift the team with his fine form.
However, there have been arguments about who the best player should be in the English Premier League with Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk and Man City’s Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero already tipped and nominated for the EPL player of the year award.
Data and statistic website WhoScored.com in their rating have the Belgium international 7.79 ahead of Raheem Sterling who scored 7.67.
However, the stat reveals that Eden Hazard has scored 16 goals and provided 12 assists which means he is ahead of all of his rivals in contributing to goals.
Meanwhile, this could just be his last season in the English Premier League and he could leave with ovation very high as Spanish La Liga outfit Real Madrid seems to be his destination ahead of the coming season.
Confirmed! This Chelsea star no longer leaving Stamford Bridge
It has been confirmed by West London outfit Chelsea boss that France international Olivier Giroud will not be leaving the club at the end of the season as earlier speculated.
Olivier Giroud has been reported to be seeking a move away from the Stamford Bridge after complaining of lack of playing time and has been linked with a number of clubs.
The striker’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season but the club have agreed to activate the 12 months extension clause.
Maurizio Sarri has now confirmed that the former Arsenal striker will not be leaving the club in the coming summer as he will remain to help the team to challenge for titles.
There are suggestions that the decision by the Italian boss is informed by the transfer ban on the club for the next two season.
Efforts have been made to appeal the ban but there has not been a result yet which means the West London players will have to remain and not move away if the club must compete for titles in the coming season.
However, manager Maurizio Sarri team will hope to secure qualification to the Champions League next season by finishing in the top-four.
Why Sarri will not be at Chelsea next season
Football pundit Paul Merson has been hinted that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri might not remain at the Stamford Bridge in the coming season.
The Italian boss is no longer in the good books of the Blues’ fans owing to the poor results by the team and the inability to compete for the English Premier League title.
Sarri joined the Stamford Bridge from the Italian Serie A outfit Napoli in the last summer transfer window and the fans are already wanting him out.
Paul Merson stated that Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich will not want to have Maurizio Sarri at the club next season because he was brought in to play the expansion football, play good football as well as score more goals but that has not happened.
However, Paul Merson suggested that Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe will be the best replacement for the former Napoli boss because of his style of football which is close to what the Blues owner wants.
He stressed that Eddie Howe has a style of play which is good for winning and it is expected to work well at the top level.
Meanwhile, the Blues are more particular about winning the appeal of the transfer ban on the club so as to be able to compete next season.
