Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is keen to end his football career on a high after he revealed that he wants to retire at the end of this season by winning the Europa League trophy.
The ex-Czech Republic international announced that he will hang up his gloves some weeks ago and the former Chelsea shot-stopper is targeting Europa League glory as a wonderful retirement present.
Petr Cech played his part to make his dream a reality after he kept a clean sheet during the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Rennes at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
It was the second leg of their last 16 tie as the Gunners were able to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg to advance to the quarterfinals via a 4-3 aggregate win.
Arsenal made a fantastic start as early as the fifth minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prodded home from close range off a backheel pass from Aaron Ramsey to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Aubameyang turned provider for the impressive Ainsley Maitland-Nile who doubled their lead on 15 minutes.
The Gabonese international player wrapped up the straightforward win for Arsenal in the second half thereby giving the Gunners a spot in the last eight of this season’s Europa League via a 4-3 win on aggregate.
