North London giants Arsenal will have to contend with the threat from Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in their quest to sign Ajax Amsterdam defender Nicolas Tagliafico.
This is according to the report from popular transfer news portal Daily Mail.
The Gunners have been previously linked with a move for the Argentine international left-back but they will have to battle with a new club in Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
First choice left-back is entering the twilight of his career and Atletico Madrid see the aforementioned Tagliafico as the long-term replacement for him.
The 26-year-old has scored five goals in 27 appearances for Ajax Amsterdam this season.
Arsenal had issues at left-back earlier this season due to the injury to first choice Nacho Monreal.
The Spaniard has been in good form for the Gunners since his return from injury towards the end of last year but that has not stopped Arsenal manager Unai Emery from eyeing a long-term replacement for Nacho Monreal.
The former Malaga player has a current Arsenal deal that runs until the end of next season and that’s expected to be his final destination at the club mainly due to his age.
Current deputy Sead Kolasinac is seen as a left wing-back rather than as a left-back by the aforementioned Unai Emery.
