It has been revealed that Liverpool goalkeeper Shamal George was attacked in a city centre bar at around 1 am on Saturday.
Shamal George’s incident is being investigated by the Merseyside Police as it is alleged that it is an attack that is racially motivated.
The 21-year-old is reported to have suffered a facial injury from the assault while his younger brother who spent half of the season on loan at Tranmere was also injured in the incident, according to reports.
However, the Merseyside Police are understood to be studying CCTV footage of the attack at Liverpool so as to get hold of the culprit.
The Merseyside Police have therefore called on members of the general public for anyone who is a witness to the incident to come forward and identify.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool football club have reacted to the incident as they express regret and shock that Shamal George was attacked as they promised to offer needed support to him and his family.
The Football Club confirm that the case is being handled by the Merseyside Police and will not want to jeopardize their investigations with any questions.
Liverpool, therefore, stressed that they will make no further comment on the matter until the outcome of the investigation by the Police.
