Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires believes that the Golden Boot race in the Premier League is between Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah.
Arsenal legend Pires spoke to Bwin about the race for the league’s top scorer as he ruled out the likes of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Gunners’ attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Harry Kane scored his 17th league goal of the season after he netted the opening goal during Spurs’ league meeting at Southampton.
His first-half goal was not enough as the Saints came from a goal down to beat their guests 2-1 thus boosting their quest to escape relegation at the end of the season.
Jan Valery and James Ward-Prowse got the goals for Southampton in the second half.
Arsenal striker Aubameyang has scored 16 goals ahead of the Gunners’ home clash with Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero leads the goalscorers’ chart with 18 goals though he has not scored in the last two league games including the Watford game.
In the absence of a lethal Aguero against Watford, teammate Raheem Sterling staked a claim for the Golden Boot by netting a treble in the 3-1 home win over the Hornets.
Sterling has now scored 15 league goals for Manchester City this season.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has 17 goals ahead of Sunday’s home game against Burnley.
