Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has offered his message of support to Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng after he was unceremoniously axed from the German national team.
Ozil consoled former German national team colleague Jerome Boateng via his official Twitter handle before adding that he was sorry for the way the Ghanaian-born German player was treated.
Jerome Boateng was one of three senior players axed from the newly released list of players for the upcoming matches for the German national team.
Boateng and Bayern Munich teammates Mat Hummels and Thomas Mueller were all dropped from the team.
Germany national team manager Joachim Low told popular German newspaper SportBild that the focus is on a new start for the team after a disastrous 2017/18 season.
The world was stunned into disbelief after the world champions Germany finished bottom of their group at last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Germany failed woefully in their defense of the title they won during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
They lost to Mexico in their opening game at the tournament in Russia before suffering another group game defeat to South Korea.
In the end, Germany finished bottom of Group F at the tournament.
They also finished bottom of their UEFA Nations League group at the end of last year.
Mesut Ozil is no longer with the team after he retired following the criticisms he received after the poor World Cup campaign.
