Dutch legend Jhonny Rep has urged Ajax Amsterdam captain Matthijs De Ligt to stay at the club for another year before moving on to a bigger team.
Ex-Dutch winger Rep spoke about De Ligt in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS as he revealed that the player will be better served by spending an extra year at Ajax Amsterdam.
Matthijs De Ligt has built a reputation to be one of the best young players in world football with several European clubs including Arsenal keen to sign him.
The Gunners are almost certain to sign a new centre back when the transfer window reopens and Matthijs De Ligt has been mentioned as a possible target for the North Londoners.
De Ligt, 19, has grown to become a key player for both club (Ajax Amsterdam) and country (Netherlands) with his performances on the pitch in last year.
He played a big role in the Ajax Amsterdam side that reached the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in almost a decade.
Matthijs De Ligt has made 13 appearances for the Netherlands with a big fraction of those games coming in the UEFA Nations League as he helped his country reach the semifinals.
