Spanish left-back Jordi Alba has signed a four-year contract extension until the end of the 2023/24 season according to Barcelona with a €500m release clause.
The latest development is a big transfer blow to Premier League giants Manchester United who have been linked with a move for the Spanish international player.
The 29-year-old was touted as a possible addition to the Manchester United rank if former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane takes over at Old Trafford.
Zidane is one of the three main contenders for the Manchester United managerial job ahead of the summer alongside interim manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Zinedine Zidane built his managerial reputation at Real Madrid after the French football legend led the Los Merengues to three successive Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018.
Jordi Alba has been a mainstay at Barcelona since the Spaniard returned to the club in 2012 from fellow Spanish La Liga club Valencia.
Since joining Barcelona, Jordi Alba has scored seven goals in 185 appearances for Barcelona in the league.
The first choice left-back has scored twice and provided nine assists in 36 games in all competitions this term.
