German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are the favourites to sign highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt at the moment according to reports coming out of the media in Germany.
The specific report from German newspaper Sport Bild claim that the defender could end up at the Allianz Arena after it emerged that Spanish champions Barcelona have not agreed on a deal to sign him.
Earlier reports had revealed that the Catalan giants have agreed on a deal for him to join his friend and Ajax teammate, Frenkie De Jong, at the club next season.
Barcelona signed De Jong during the winter transfer window last month but he’s not expected to feature for the Nou Camp outfit until the summer.
The 21-year-old will spend the remainder of this season with Dutch Eredivisie giants Ajax Amsterdam.
Matthijs De Ligt has been attracting the interest of several European clubs aside Barcelona and Bayern.
Paris Saint Germain (PSG), Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked with him.
€60m-rated De Ligt has seen his stock soar in the past months off and on the pitch.
He was handed the Ajax captaincy last year at the age of 18 thus making him the youngest recipient.
In addition, he’s the reigning Golden Boy Award winner.
