Kostas Manolas

Premier League giants Manchester United are in pole position to sign AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas according to reports emanating from the Italian media.

Italian news platform Corriere dello Sport say that the Red Devils are ahead of other interested clubs like German champions Bayern Munich and Italian Serie A giants Juventus in their bid to sign him.

It was revealed that his agent Mino Raiola has already had talks with Manchester United to put them in the box seat as far as the transfer for Kostas Manolas is concerned.

Juventus and Bayern Munich are also monitoring his situation at AS Roma.

The 27-year-old has a €36m release clause in his present contract with AS Roma.

Manolas has a long-term AS Roma contract which does not expire until the end of the 2021/22 season meaning that he still has over three years to run.

The Greek international centre back has proven himself to be a key player for AS Roma since he signed for the Italian club from Olympiacos in 2014.

Arsenal were heavily linked with him before AS Roma won the race to sign him.

He represents a cheaper for Manchester United to strengthen their defence this summer.

£90m-rated Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly remains the Red Devils’ top defensive priority this summer.
