Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has been identified as a possible replacement for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi according to reports emanating from the Italian media.
Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim that the Belgian international attacker has been targeted by Inter Milan as the man to replace Icardi at the club.
Mauro Icardi could leave Inter Milan in the summer after the Italian Serie A giants dropped him as their captain on Wednesday.
It was later confirmed that Slovenian international shot stopper Samir Handanovic would be the new Inter Milan skipper.
The decision to strip the 25-year-old of his captain duties has been linked to his contract extension talks but the club has maintained that it was taken in isolation.
Argentine international Mauro Icardi has since been strongly linked to major European clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Icardi had earlier failed to turn up for team meeting ahead of the Europa League win over Austrian side Rapid Vienna (1-0) and he’s also expected to miss the upcoming league game with Sampdoria because of injury.
Lukaku joined Manchester United in a £75m deal at the start of last season and he could replace Icardi at Inter Milan after playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford as the main man in the Manchester United attack in the past weeks.
