Two Premier League giants namely Manchester United and Chelsea are in the running to sign Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic in the summer as reported by several media outlets in Spain.
Spanish media platform Sport claim that both clubs have made an enquiry about his availability in the summer and Barcelona could be open to doing a deal worth €65m.
Ivan Rakitic is in a contract standoff with his Spanish club at the moment and that has led to talks of a move away from the club ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) wanted to sign Rakitic last summer but he managed to stay at the Nou Camp after manager Ernesto Valverde convinced him that he was a big part of his plans in the Barcelona midfield.
The Croatian international has asked the club for a new and improved deal but his request was met with a resounding NO from senior Barcelona officials.
Ivan Rakitic was a key part of the Croatia squad that surprised a lot of football followers by reaching the final of last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia before they were beaten 4-2 by eventual champions France.
His Barcelona contract will expire in the summer of 2021.
