Premier League giants Manchester United will step up their bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho by making an opening offer for him.
This is according to the publication from media outlet Don Balon.
Manchester United will make an opening bid of €80m for the La Liga star.
Brazilian international star Coutinho has endured a frustrating spell at the club since his multi-million pounds move from Liverpool at the start of last year.
The 26-year-old became the third most expensive player in world football behind the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe after the Catalan giants agreed on a £142m transfer fee including add-ons.
Coutinho has been dropped from the Barcelona team on numerous occasions since the start of the season having failed to adapt to the style employed by manager Ernesto Valverde.
His place has largely been taken by the in-form Ousmane Dembele who has missed recent games because of injury.
Former Inter Milan playmaker Coutinho has scored just four league goals for Barcelona this term in addition to two assists.
Apart from Manchester United, the player has been touted as a possible signing for other major European sides like Chelsea and French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
