Three-time European champions Manchester United have been dealt a big blow in their chase for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar following the news that he’s close to signing a new contract with his Italian Serie A club.
This is according to various media reports from the Italian media.
Italian news portal Corriere dello Sport claim that there’s no release clause in the new Inter Milan deal for the Slovakian international centre back and that a new contract is just a mere formality with signatures the only thing standing in the way of a formal announcement.
It was revealed that the new contract will run till the summer of 2023 and the defender has been given a significant pay rise.
His new contract will see his weekly wages increase to €3m annually plus bonuses from the €1.7m in his current deal.
Milan Skriniar is one of the defensive targets on the Red Devils’ transfer shortlist.
Manchester United have made the signing of a new centre back top priority in the summer and the Slovakian defender is one of their prime candidates for the role.
Skriniar has impressed a great deal for Inter Milan since he joined the club from fellow Italian top flight side in 2017.
