What is wrong with Liverpool’s defender Van Dijk

At the start of the season, Liverpool central defender Virgil Van Dijk was praised as the backbone of the Liverpool team because of his defensive ability which helped the team to concede lesser goals.

The former Southampton defender was solid alongside Joe Gomez at the middle and they were commanded to give the midfield and attack the confidence to keep going forward without looking back.

This can no longer be said at the moment owing to the situation with the club especially now that they lost their top spot within two weeks. From being top with about 7 points clear, Liverpool are now second in the Premier League table.

However, Mark Lawrenson has suggested that the Liverpool defender is now looking ordinary, different from what he used to be at the start of the season.

It has already been established that the £150,000-a-week defender is one of the best in the league but it seems the shield in him has been lost, according to Mark Lawrenson.

Hinting on what the problem might be for Virgil Van Dijk, Mark Lawrenson stated that he has lost his trusted partners on the pitch to injury and the people.

However, it is unsure when Joe Gomez and other defenders will be returning but it has been established that the return of Van Dijk to his best will go a long way in helping Liverpool.
