Premier League giants Manchester United and their Spanish counterparts Real Madrid were in the running for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen until the latest development which confirmed that the Spaniards have pulled out of the race to sign the Danish national team star.
The major development on Christian Eriksen has handed the Red Devils a clear run at the player who has 18 months left on his current Tottenham Hotspur deal.
His Spurs contract is expected to expire at the end of next season with the North London club keen to tie him down to a new contract.
According to AS Diario, Los Merengues has pulled out of the race to sign the player and are ready to offer Croatian World Cup star Luka Modric a new contract at the club.
Incidentally, Tottenham Hotspur signed Christian Eriksen as a replacement for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric when he left the club to join the Champions League holders in the summer of 2012.
Modric has been heavily linked with Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan but Real Madrid want to retain his services at the club.
The ex-Tottenham Hotspur playmaker came close to joining the Nerazzurri last summer shortly after his World Cup heroics in Russia.
