Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has joined Arsenal on a short-term loan deal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old is expected to reunite with compatriot Unai Emery at Arsenal having worked with the former Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Almeria manager while he was at Spanish La Liga club Sevilla.

Denis Suarez played under Unai Emery during the 2014/15 season at Sevilla who won a second of three successive Europa League titles during that campaign.

His transfer was confirmed by Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Barcelona confirmed that the one-cap Spanish international player has signed a one-year contract extension with the Catalan giants until the end of the 2020/21 season before joining the Gunners on loan for the remainder of this campaign.

Spanish journalist Guillem Balague had earlier confirmed that the North Londoners will pay a €2.3m loan fee for Denis Suarez with the option of signing the player permanently for €25m at the end of his loan spell.

Arsenal and Barcelona initially reached a deadlock over Denis Suarez transfer talks but the player’s desire to link up with Unai Emery again ensured that the Gunners finally got their man.

Barcelona had earlier insisted on the obligation to buy the player at the end of his Arsenal loan deal.
