Three-time European champions Manchester United have made a big step to securing the future of one of their playmakers.
The Daily Mirror claim that Manchester United have offered Mata a 12-month deal that will take his contract until the end of next season.
Juan Manuel Mata, 30, has proven to be an important squad player for the Red Devils since he joined the club from Chelsea in January 2014 while David Moyes was the Manchester United manager but his future at the club is in doubt with six months remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford.
His present Manchester United contract expires at the end of this season and that has led to transfer talks to other major European clubs.
Premier League top four rivals Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Mata having played under Gunners boss Unai Emery during his time at Spanish La Liga giants Valencia.
Other interested parties include the aforementioned Valencia as well as fellow Spanish team Barcelona.
Italian Serie A champions Juventus and their French counterparts Paris Saint Germain (PSG) have also been mentioned as possible transfer destinations for Juan Manuel who’s said to be holding out for better job security of at least a two-year contract.
