Three-time European champions Manchester United are reportedly plotting a move for one of the best midfielders in the Italian Serie A.

According to Italian media outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Red Devils are tracking Cagliari midfielder, Nicolo Barella.

Cagliari have already slapped a £43m asking price on the young midfielder amidst interest from both the Premier League and the Italian Serie A.

It was revealed that Cagliari rejected an offer from Manchester United for Nicolo Barella earlier in this winter transfer window.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with a transfer for Barella but the asking price slapped on him has led to the Blues cooling their interest in him.

The Blues identified him as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas who has joined struggling French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco.

Spanish international Fabregas signed for the French outfit in this winter transfer market.

The Blues’ other midfield target, Leandro Paredes is on the verge of joining French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) after the Champions League campaigners agreed on a £34m transfer fee with Zenit St. Petersburg for the player.

The Zenit star is expected to join PSG in the coming days.

Chelsea opted not to pursue a move for the Argentine international player with the Blues’ uncertain about his ability to thrive in the Premier League.
