London club Arsenal are reportedly plotting a bid for highly rated Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals according to Spanish media reports.

According to the publication from the stables of Spanish news portal Sport, Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to boost his midfield options with Pablo Fornals.

The Spanish international has a £28.5m release clause in his current deal with the Yellow Submarines.

He has scored three goals in addition to providing four assists in 29 appearances for a struggling Villareal side this season.

Arsenal will have to contend with the threat of London rivals West Ham United who are also interested in the player.

It was revealed that the Gunners have targeted a move for Pablo Fornals since the Arsene Wenger era.

Unai Emery replaced the Frenchman at the start of the season.

The Spaniard signed a three-year contract at Arsenal last summer and he has led the North London club to within three points of the Champions League places.

He masterminded the Gunners’ 2-0 win over top four rivals Chelsea in their last league game.

Chelsea occupy the final spot in the Champions League places.

Unai Emery has also led Arsenal to the first knockout stage of the Europa League where they will face Belarusian side BATE Borisov.
