English Premier League leaders Liverpool are reported to be closing in on the signature of Bayer Leverkusen forward Kai Havertz, having made their interest official.

The Reds have got a solid forward with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but manager Jurgen Klopp could be interested in strengthening knowing that the second half of the season promises to be more difficult.

However, the German manager is believed to be willing to add Kai Havertz to the squad after he has impressed with his side and also has the potential to play at a big stage.

Kai Havertz impresses a number of big European sides with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Man United all keen to land him before this winter transfer window is over.

The star player is being valued by Transfermarket at £55 million but Liverpool could be asked to pay more knowing that his owners are not interested in letting him go.

Kai Havertz still has a contract ruining with the German Bundesliga outfit until 2022 with a release clause of £70 million attached to his contract.

However, the Reds management will have to be very convinced about the ability of the forward before investing such an amount in his signature.
