Premier League giants Manchester United have failed with a bid for highly rated Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.
This was confirmed by Fiorentina chief Pantaleo Corvino who said that they rejected a bid from Manchester United for Milenkovic.
Corvino further stated that Fiorentina are not in a rush to sell their best players as he revealed that they have also rejected bids for French midfielder Jordan Veretout from Lyon and for Giovanni Simeone from Ligue 1 club Marseille.
Nikola Milenkovic is a long-term defensive target for Manchester United and at least a £45m bid is enough to prise him away from his Italian Serie A club if recent reports are anything to go by.
The Serbian international is a utility player that can play at both right-backs and in central defence.
He has been dubbed the new Nemanja Vidic.
Ex-Serbian international defender Vidic is widely regarded as one of the best Manchester United defenders of the last two decades.
Manchester United have struggled defensively this season and senior club officials are keen to boost the team with new defenders.
Nikola Milenkovic is on the Red Devils’ list of possible defensive reinforcements with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly at the top of that list.
Koulibaly is one of the best center-backs on the world football stage.
