Arsenal manager Unai Emery has told the club to sign a Spanish La Liga defender as he tries to boost his defensive options for the rest of the season.

According to the publication from Spanish media portal ElDesmarque via Sky Sports, Unai Emery has recommended Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi to the Gunners hierarchy.

The Algerian international player has been in very good form for Real Betis this season.

The 27-year-old centre back has a release clause of £27m (€30m) in his Real Betis contract and that could prove to be a stumbling block to any transfer on the part of the Gunners who are cash strapped at the moment.

Arsenal don’t have funds to sign players permanently in this transfer window with club only able to secure signings via loan.

Unai Emery while speaking in one of his pre-match press conferences earlier this month confirmed that Arsenal can only sign players on loan.

The Spaniard also gave an update on transfers during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday ahead of the FA Cup clash with Manchester United on Friday night.

Unai Emery said that club officials are working on potential signings and that he doesn’t want to speak about individual players.
