Three-time European champions Manchester United have rejected a loan bid from top four rivals Arsenal for one of their defenders.
According to the Daily Mail, North London giants Arsenal firmed up their long-term interest in Eric Bailly by proposing a loan bid for him but the Gunners were swiftly rebuffed by Manchester United.
Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the Ivorian international centre back dating back to when Jose Mourinho was the Red Devils manager.
Eric Bailly was said to be one of the players that had an issue with the Portuguese tactician before he was sacked from his job last month.
The Ivorian defender was the first signing of the Mourinho era at Manchester United after his £30m transfer from Spanish La Liga club Villareal in the summer of 2016 shortly after the Portuguese manager was named the Red Devils boss.
He was a constant fixture in the Manchester United defence, whenever he’s not injured, until recently.
Bailly, 24, started the first two games of this season in the Premier League and has made just seven more appearances since then.
He has 18 months left on his contract at the club though Manchester United have the right to activate two additional years to take his time at the club to the summer of 2022.
