Three-time European champions Manchester United will have to compete with Spanish giants Real Madrid in their quest to sign one of the breakout stars of the Portuguese Super League season.

Young Brazilian defender Eder Militao has been very impressive for Portuguese champions FC Porto this season after joining the club from Sao Paulo FC of Brazil at the start of the season.

The Daily Mail say that Real Madrid are heavily interested in signing Eder Militao and Manchester United will have to fight off the Spaniards to sign him.

Earlier reports from his native Brazil had revealed that Real Madrid have agreed on a transfer for him but Manchester United are still in the hunt.

Other Premier League sides like Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation at FC Porto.

Eder Militao has a €50m (£45m) release clause in his current contract with the Portuguese champions.

The 21-year-old is a utility defender that can play as a right-back, as a defensive midfielder or as a centre back.

Eder Militao has been impressive for FC Porto in their run to the top of the Portuguese Super League table as well as the Champions League round of 16 where they will face Italian Serie A giants AS Roma.
