Chelsea are in crunch battle with Manchester City for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen who is reportedly ready to end his stay at Wembley stadium this month.

The former 26-year-old playmaker still has a running contract with Spurs until 2020 but the North London club have offered him a contract extension which he reportedly turned down.

According to the Sun, the Danish star is willing to end ties with Mauricio Pochetino’s men and he’s far from reaching an agreement with the club’s hierarchy over a new deal.

Having seen the turn out of events between the two parties, top European clubs are keeping a close eye on Eriksen’s signature as they hope to lure the pacey player out of Wembley.

Spanish media outlet AS reported on Monday that La Liga side Real Madrid are keenly interested in the Denmark international and Santiago Valverde could make an official bid for his services this week.

The Santiago Bernabeu outfits are far from last season’s form and Solari is willing to add some world-class stars, including the Tottenham man, to his squad this month.

Chelsea are also linked with Eriksen’s services as Sarri continues to find a solution to his attacking problems.

In the report, AS suggested the former Napoli manager is willing to release Davide Zappacosta — who has fallen out of favor at Stamford Bridge — to any suitor in order to create space for the Tottenham man.

However, no club made an official approach towards signing the player and he still remains an integral part of Mauricio Pochetino’s side.
