Premier League giants Manchester United have suffered a major setback in their pursuit of highly rated Serbian international defender Nikola Milenkovic.
The 21-year-old plays his club football for Italian Serie A side Fiorentina at the moment.
Reports coming out of Italy claim that the defender won’t be leaving Fiorentina in this January transfer window and that they are opposed to the idea of their players leaving in the middle of the season.
Manchester United might have to wait till the end of this season to finally get their defensive target.
Nikola Milenkovic is a utility defender that can play as a right-back and as a central defender
Earlier reports had revealed that Manchester United were keen to spend as much as €50m (£45m) on the young defender and that interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will meet with chief executive Ed Woodward to discuss a possible transfer for the player.
Solskjaer became the interim manager last month after Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho was dismissed from his post as the Red Devils boss.
Manchester United have really improved under his watch with five victories from five games but that has not stopped the club from pursuing quality players that can improve the squad especially on the defensive front.
