Arsenal manager Unai Emery is one step closer to signing his long-time target Ever Banega, that’s according to Spanish media Mundo Deportivo.
The Argentine midfielder was targeted by the Gunners manager in the summer window but the player turned down the offer as he claimed he was happy playing for Sevilla.
The desperate manager — who had a healthy relationship with the player during his time with Sevilla — offered a much improved deal for Banega in November but he reportedly revealed that he would only dump Sevilla if the Gunners are ready to pay £6.5m as annual salary.
The Gunners are now set to reach the player’s demand and another Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo report that they could complete his signature before the end of the month.
Estadio Deportivo claim that Emery has offered the midfielder a three-year contract as they hope to wrap up his deal as soon as possible.
The Gunners are likely to part ways with Wales international Aaron Ramsey in January, hence, Banega is seen as his replacement and Emery can’t wait to reunite with the brilliant defensive midfielder whom he trusts so much.
Since he returned to Sevilla from Inter Milan in 2017-18 season, the 30-year-old has played 47 matches in all competitions and has scored six goals in the process.
Meanwhile, The Gunners are preparing for their clash with West Ham which is set to take place at the London stadium on Saturday.
