Arsenal have activated the additional year clause in the contract of first choice left-back Nacho Monreal.
The Spaniard has been linked with a move back to Spain with clubs like Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad.
Monreal, 32, initially had six months remaining on his Arsenal contract before the Gunners decided to activate the additional year clause in his deal thus taking him till the end of the 2019/20 season.
The contract extension was confirmed by the ESPN who also revealed that contract talks on a new Arsenal deal for Nacho Monreal are on hold.
Nacho Monreal has been the first choice Arsenal left-back for the majority of his time at the Emirates Stadium since he signed for Arsenal from Spanish club Malaga in January 2013.
He has been injured since last month but the good news is that the Spanish international player is back in Arsenal training ahead of the London Derby clash with West Ham United in the Premier League.
The league game against the Hammers is billed for the Olympic Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
Earlier in the season, Arsenal manager Unai Emery praised the qualities of Nacho Monreal before adding that he would like him to stay at the club beyond this season.
