North London giants Arsenal are in the middle of a mini-crisis in defence with several players either injured or not match fit.
The Gunners signed Greek international centre back Sokratis Papastathopoulos from German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund last summer in a deal worth £17m and he appears to be the only fit defender for Arsenal at the moment.
Sokratis was the only senior centre back to feature for Arsenal during the weekend’s FA Cup third round clash with English League One side Blackpool with the others currently out injured.
One of the injured players, Laurent Koscielny, pulled out of the Gunners squad during the pre-match exercise because of injury.
Arsenal went on to beat their hosts Blackpool 3-0 at Bloomfield Road courtesy goals from Joe Willock (2) and Alex Iwobi.
The Gunners will now take on rivals Manchester United at home in the fourth round of the competition.
Arsenal have an option to consider in a bid to ease their defensive worries but the club might not consider it.
English international defender Callum Chambers left Arsenal for Fulham last summer on a season-long loan.
Arsenal will have to pay a part of his loan fee if they want to recall him from the loan spell that is in its halfway stage.
