Liverpool are reportedly close to completing the signing of Schalke 04 defensive midfielder Weston McKennie, that’s according to reports emanating from Germany.
The Reds have been monitoring the youngster’s development since his days at the 04 academy and they are impressed with his speedy development.
McKennie, 20, is a product of the 04 academy and he’s been a regular starter for the club’s first-team since the start of the season.
However, he could be linking up with the Anfield outfits before the end of this month.
According to transfer media, Liverpool are leading the race for the American star who has appeared in nine matches for his country.
In the same vein, bookmakers BetVictor revealed that Jurgen Klopp is ahead of other interested suitors in the race for his signature.
BetVictor says McKennie as 4/1 chances of moving to Anfield, while Chelsea and Tottenham have equal chance of 8/1 to bring him to their respective clubs.
Nonetheless, this appears like mere speculation as Jurgen Klopp’s side is not in need of new midfielder in January.
There are many unused midfielders under the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s watch, hence, it’s surprising that BetVictor are coming up with such a prediction.
As for now, there is a very slim chance that we will see McKennie move to the Anfield stadium because he might end up playing with the club’s youth team due to intense competition among the first-team players.
McKennie has played 46 games with Schalke 04 in which he shone like a million stars. It would be advisable he remains with the Bundesliga outfit so as to develop his game before thinking of a move to any top club in Europe.
