Spanish La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao have confirmed their interest in Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.
The interest of the Basque club was revealed by the club’s sporting director Rafael Alkorta as reported by the Manchester Evening News (MEN).
According to Rafael Alkorta, Athletic Bilbao are keen for the midfielder to return to the club.
Ander Herrera left the Spanish outfit to join Manchester United in the summer of 2014.
The five-year contract that he signed then is expected to run out this summer.
The Spanish international star can speak with foreign clubs about a free transfer move with six months left on his current contract with Manchester United.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that new Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a say on the futures of five players whose contract expires this summer including Ander Herrera.
Apart from Ander Herrera, Manchester United players like Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira and Matteo Darmian are also facing uncertain futures at the Theatre of Dreams.
All the aforementioned players have six months left on their contract at Old Trafford.
Rafael Alkorta confirmed that Athletic Bilbao are also interested in other players like Javier Martinez, Ibai Gomez and Fernando Llorente.
