Italian Serie A giants Lazio have identified Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta as an alternative in the event that they can’t sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United.
The Italians have made Manchester United fullback Matteo Darmian their top transfer target for the January transfer window which reopened on Tuesday.
Darmian has not been able to secure a regular spot in the Red Devils starting XI since his transfer to the club from Italian Serie A outfit Torino in 2015.
The 29-year-old signed for the Old Trafford club while Dutchman Louis Van Gaal was the Manchester United manager.
Matteo Darmian has already talked up the possibility of returning to Italy.
In his last interview, the Italian international player admitted that he’s homesick and a move to Lazio will go a long way to end that.
Lazio are not the only Italian club keen on a move for Darmian.
The Europa League campaigners will face the threat of rivals Inter Milan who also want to sign the player that can play either as a left-back or as a right-back.
Lazio will try to sign Davide Zappacosta of Chelsea FC if they can’t sign Matteo Darmian.
Zappacosta has scored just once in 24 appearances since he signed for the Blues from Torino just like Matteo Darmian.
