Emerging reports will not be a good one for English Premier League side as they are set to lose out on one of their major targets in this winter transfer window.

The report claims that the German Bundesliga giants are almost done with negotiation with Stuttgart over the signature of star defender Benjamin Pavard.

The Reds are in the hunt for just one player, according to reports and the French winger was tipped to join the Anfield so as to complement the solid defence of the Merseyside club.

However, Bayern Munich are now in pole position to secure the signature of the World Cup winner who is contracted to his current side until 2021 as the Bundesliga giants will not mind meeting the £40 million release clause.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been tipped to have the best defence in the league and that has been pointed to as the reason why they are top of the league.

While the Liverpool defence has been celebrated, there is a need to find a replacement for Joe Gomez who is injured and will not be available for a while.

Joe Gomez has been impressive so far this season especially with his solid partnership with former Southampton central defender Virgil Van Dijk which has ensured the number of clean sheets by Liverpool.
