Italian Serie A side Lazio are reportedly plotting a transfer for Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian ahead of the upcoming mid-season transfer transfer window scheduled to begin as from the 1st of January.

Italian media portal La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the Italian capital club are ready to pay as much as £12m for the fullback.

The Italian international defender has been on the fringes of the Manchester United team since the start of last season.

He has played just 21 games for the Red Devils in all competitions since the start of last season.

Matteo Darmian can play either as a left-back or as a right-back.

The Italian defender has always deputized for the trio of Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, and Ashley Young whenever either of these players is out of the team.

Darmian has previously talked up the possibility of moving back to Italy adding that he misses home.

He would be a fantastic addition to the Lazio team, especially in the fullback positions though the Italian capital club might need to fight off fellow top flight side Inter Milan to sign him.

Since his transfer to Manchester United from Torino in 2015, Matteo Damian has been able to score just one league goal for the Red Devils.
