North London giants Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in the chase for Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisic after their opening bid of £35m was rejected for the player.

This is according to the publication from the renowned English media portal The Sun.

It was further revealed that Premier League rivals Liverpool are edging closer to signing the United States of America international after the Reds made a £45m bid for him.

The Liverpool bid is said to be closer to Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of the player.

Arsenal and Liverpool are not the only English top flight clubs interested in the player who has also been courting interests from Premier League sides like Manchester United and Chelsea.

Recent reports had claimed that Chelsea made a bid for the 20-year-old but nothing came out of those transfer rumours.

The American forward has just 18 months on his current deal with German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and the club must sell him either in the upcoming January transfer market or next summer to avoid losing him for free.

He’s almost certain that Borussia Dortmund won’t offer him a new contract after losing his place in the starting XI since new manager Lucien Favre took over in the summer.
