Three-time European champions Manchester United are plotting a shock transfer for highly rated Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez ahead of the mid-season winter transfer window scheduled to begin in eleven days time.
This is according to the publication from OK Diario via the Daily Express.
It was revealed that the Red Devils have set their sights firmly on the recruitment of a new centre back in the upcoming transfer window and Lucas Hernandez is one of their top transfer targets.
His stock rose in the summer after he played a major role for the French national team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
Lucas Hernandez was part of the 23-man France squad that won the tournament with a 4-2 victory over surprise finalists Croatia in their final clash in the summer.
Earlier reports in the week claimed that Bayern Munich have activated the £77m release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.
The Bayern Munich transfer rumours prompted Atletico Madrid to release an official statement that the player is not for sale and that the 22-year-old has not asked to leave the club.
Manchester United could take advantage of the situation by paying the release clause of one of their defensive transfer targets.
