North London giants Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of German midfielder Julian Weigl following the news that he won’t leave his club when the winter transfer window reopens in few weeks time.
Julian Weigl plays his club football for German Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund at the moment.
The 23-year-old Bundesliga star will not leave Borussia Dortmund despite the interests of Arsenal, AS Roma and AC Milan.
Earlier reports claimed that the Gunners want to sign Weigl and that the bid to sign him is spearheaded by Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mslintat.
Weigl is no stranger to Mslintat following their time together at Borussia Dortmund before the Arsenal director swapped Germany for England.
Italian Serie A giants AC Milan have been decimated with the long-term injuries to Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Biglia and the San Siro outfit would like to add at least a midfielder to the squad to offset the loss of the injured players.
Julian Weigl has been mentioned as one of the midfield candidates for the Milan job.
Italian capital club AS Roma are also interested in the player.
Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has dismissed transfer rumours surrounding Weigl after he claimed that the player is indispensable in his midfield alongside Thomas Delaney, Axel Witsel and Mahmoud Dahoud.
