Arsenal Boss Hints Defensive Addition In January
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has hinted that he could sign a new centre-back when the transfer window reopens at the start of next month.
The Spaniard was speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Gunners’ final Group E game against Qarabag FC of Azerbaijan scheduled to take place at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Unai Emery revealed that the signing of a centre back is high on the list of transfer targets ahead of the January transfer.
The former Valencia and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) manager also talked about the idea of recalling Callum Chambers halfway into his season-long loan spell at London club Fulham before adding that the duo of Stephan Lichtsteiner (right-back) and Nacho Montreal (left-back) should be able to do a job at centre back.
Unai Emery went on to talk about the duo of club skipper Laurent Koscielny and Kostantinos Mavropanos, who are just recovering from respective long-term injuries.
Arsenal defenders Koscielny and Mavropanos have not played for the Gunners this season.
The North Londoners are lean at the back for the away Premier League game against struggling Southampton on Sunday.
Both Shkrodan Mustafi and Sokratis Paoasthathopoulos are suspended for the game against the Saints after accumulating five yellow cards, while Rob Holding is out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
