Manchester United reportedly passed up the chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld during the summer’s transfer window.
This revelation was made by Phil Brown via the Daily Star.
Phil Brown is the host of Beyond The Pitch podcast.
According to him, Manchester United didn’t take up the opportunity to sign Toby Alderweireld for just £30m.
The Belgian international player was one of the several centre-backs linked with the Red Devils during the summer.
Jose Mourinho publicly talked about his need for a new centre-back in the summer but he didn’t get his request.
Manchester United and Mourinho have suffered defensively this season without a new centre-back after conceding 24 goals in just 15 games in the Premier League.
The three-time European champions have been able to keep just two league clean sheets all season.
Apart from Toby Alderweireld, Manchester United were also linked with the likes of Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid and Uruguay), Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich and Germany), Harry Maguire (Leicester City and England) and Milan Skriniar (Inter Milan and Slovakia).
Manchester United can still get Toby at the end of the current campaign.
The Belgian centre-back has a £25m release clause in his Tottenham Hotspur deal at the moment.
