Spanish La Liga side Espanyol are plotting a sensational return to the club for Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.
The Catalan outfit would like to sign the Ivorian international player when the January transfer window reopens in the next few weeks.
Espanyol is resigned to losing Spanish centre-back Mario Hermoso to European champions Real Madrid for a fee of around £13m and they see Eric Bailly as an appropriate replacement for him.
It would be a sensational return for Eric Bailly who came through the ranks at Espanyol before signing for fellow Spanish club Villareal.
The Ivorian centre-back joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016 after the Red Devils agreed to a fee of around £30m to secure his transfer from the previously mentioned Villareal.
He was one of the first signings of the Manchester United managerial era of Jose Mourinho.
Bailly has been linked with a move to several clubs in the last few months after falling out of favour with Mourinho.
He has been able to play just 21 minutes of Premier League football since he featured for the Reds Devils in the first two games of the campaign.
Eric Bailly is a doubt for Manchester United as they entertain rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.
He would be hoping to return to league action if he’s fit enough to make the squad.
