It has been revealed that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was in contact with Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Neymar before he joined the French capital club.
Neymar, 26, signed for PSG during last summer’s transfer window in what was a world record transfer fee.
The Brazilian international star swapped Spain for France after PSG activated the €222m (£200m) release clause to make him the most expensive player in the history of world football.
The publication from Daily Express say that Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were interested in Neymar shortly before the multi-million pounds transfer to the Parc des Princes.
It was further revealed that the Red Devils were reluctant to part with the finances needed to sign him.
Neymar has been a huge success for PSG after he helped the club to a domestic treble in his first season at the club though he missed the majority of the second half with the metatarsal injury that he sustained against rivals Marseille.
The former Santos forward has been linked with a return to Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona in the last few days with reports claiming that Ousmane Dembele could be used as a makeweight for the transfer to happen.
